One-on-One coaching

One-on-one leadership coaching focuses on skills and issues clients have identified as vital to their effectiveness. This highly personal process optimizes leadership ability and improves bottom-line results. It usually starts with an evaluation using assessment tools such as 360° feedback and personal interviews that help focus the coaching objectives and ensure they are in alignment with those of the client's organization.

Because personal development is inherent to the coaching model, initial coaching sessions often focus on understanding "Who are you? What do you want? How will you do it? What stops you?" The coaching philosophy assumes that the client, not the coach, has the answer to these questions. In coaching relationships it is always the client's agenda that is addressed.

Working together, the client and coach explore the coaching objectives through a series of focused conversations which address the challenges inherent in making behavioral change. Coaching succeeds when it calls for effective action - at each session a specific action plan is developed. Personal accountability and regular progress reviews during coaching sessions keep the client on track. Integral to the coaching experience is the different perspective brought by the coach enabling the client to move beyond their self-imposed constraints and limiting beliefs. Because each coaching session is supportive and personal, an environment is created in which the client sets challenges that are big enough to achieve their goals. The inherent accountability of one-on-one coaching is what ensures the success of these goals.

The coaching sessions are generally conducted by telephone rather than in person. Some of the advantages to conducting the coaching session via telephone compared to face to face meetings are that the sessions are generally shorter, about 45 minutes in duration and they tend to be more focused because there are fewer distractions. Most clients find 3 sessions per month is the right frequency and fits into schedules more easily.
